As the excitement builds for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, here’s a roundup of the latest developments from Sweden, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom — plus a special BBC radio appearance this afternoon.
🇸🇪 Sweden: KAJ’s “Bara Bada Bastu” Leads the Pack
Swedish-Finnish trio KAJ clinched victory at Melodifestivalen 2025 with their song “Bara Bada Bastu”, which translates to “Just Sauna”. The track, a humorous and nostalgic homage to sauna culture, blends folk-pop charm with witty lyrics and has fast become a fan favourite.

🇱🇺 Luxembourg: Laura Thorn’s Empowering Entry
Luxembourg marks its Eurovision comeback with Laura Thorn, performing “La PoupĂ©e Monte Le Son” (“The Doll Turns Up the Volume”). The song offers a bold, empowering counterpoint to France Gall’s 1965 winning entry “PoupĂ©e de cire, poupĂ©e de son”, which portrayed a doll-like figure lacking agency. Thorn’s lyrics reclaim that imagery with confidence and defiance.
The track was composed by Christophe Houssin, Julien Salvia, and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal – the latter two of whom I’m proud to call friends. Their theatrical and dynamic writing style gives the song both flair and substance.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: Remember Monday’s Energetic Anthem
The UK’s 2025 entry comes from country-pop trio Remember Monday with “What The Hell Just Happened?”. The song captures the chaotic aftermath of a wild night out, blending humour with rich harmonies and a fresh energy.
It’s the first time since 1999 that a girl group is representing the UK. The track was co-written by the trio along with Julie Aagaard, Kes Kamara, Sam Brennan, Thomas Stengaard, and Tom Hollings.
